Chauncey Rose: Hautean Hero

This elegant artwork hangs in my office and is one of my favorite pieces.

I draw inspiration from a Terre Haute hero named Chauncey Rose, who may have been America's greatest philanthropist. He was one of the founders of the Wabash Valley and should be an inspiration to all of us who understand that we live in a place ripe with opportunity and in desperate need of our best efforts.

I look at this simple image of a single line, connecting and diverting to make something beautiful, with an eye looking to the future and a rose, the symbol of our Hautean greatness, calling us to build on the best of our past.
